For most of the season, I've maintained that the Seahawks and Rams were so far ahead of the pack that there should be a significant gap between both teams' ratings and the rest of the league. That's no longer the case. Seattle continues to deal with significant turnover issues on offense, repeatedly wasting the excellent performances of its elite defense. The Rams were billed as a superteam coming into the season but have won just two of their first six games, and only the Week 2 win over a Giants team that lost its quarterback during the game stands out as a dominant performance.
That has left room for a team to surpass them in my power ratings, and it's a team used to being on top. The Chiefs now lead the league in yards per play differential while also boasting the league's top rushing offense on a per-attempt basis. But there's a caveat as well: the schedule has been about as easy as you could make it. What was supposed to be a difficult matchup in Week 1 against the Broncos turned out to feature the league's worst offense on the other side. The Colts are 31st in yards per play differential, and the Dolphins haven't come close to a win. The Chargers look dead in the water with their injuries.
This week provides the Chiefs their first true test, if the Seahawks offense can stop turning the ball over. Can Patrick Mahomes and Co. solve the best defense in the league on the road?
