NFL Week 6 best bets: Five top picks for against the spread pools and contests starts with leverage question
Two games in pools offer significant line value due to unexpected QB absences, but should you play them?

As of Thursday at around lunchtime, when lines lock for the Circa Million, it looked like Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson would play this week. With the Eagles installed as one-point underdogs in the contest, news broke that Hurts would be sidelined, shooting the line up to Panthers -3.5. The Ravens were set as 5.5-point favorites with the expectation Jackson would play, but after he was ruled out Friday, the line came down to Ravens -3.
When betting both games, you either beat the line move or you didn't. In Circa Million and many other ATS pools and contests, however, entrants will get to play the stale lines. That means we should write in Panthers and Browns, count on two free points, and move on, right?
I never like playing a team in this situation when I expect a massive amount of entrants on the same side because the team with its back against the wall typically has enough of a chance at covering that I don't want to risk taking a loss with a huge amount of others. In fact, I'm more likely to take the other side if I can make a strong enough case for the stale number to cover, though it also comes down to how strongly I feel about the rest of the slate.
