Joe Burrow season-ending injury bad news for Bengals and William Hill Sportsbook on Offensive Rookie of the Year odds

The 2020 season is over for impressive Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow.

Entering Week 11, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, was a +140 second-favorite at William Hill Sportsbook to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year behind Chargers quarterback and No. 6 overall pick Justin Herbert (+120). Alas, Burrow suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the loss at Washington, and that's not a good result for the book because it puts Herbert in the clear-cut favored role and it already is exposed on the former Oregon Duck.

"Definitely not good for the book," a William Hill spokesperson said of Burrow's injury. "Herbert is easily the biggest liability there and he'll become the clear favorite."

The new odds aren't posted as of yet, but Herbert probably will be at least -1000 with the Burrow injury and the fact Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa (was +400 on this prop) struggled Sunday and was pulled.

Burrow's left leg was injured in the third quarter after he was sandwiched by two Washington defenders on a third-and-2 pass attempt. Burrow, the 2019 Heisman winner at LSU, was 22-of-34 for 203 yards, one touchdown and one lost fumble before the injury. He was on pace to become the first rookie in league history to have six 300-yard passing games in his first 10 appearances.

If you've watched the Bengals at all this season, a major injury to Burrow almost felt pre-ordained because he was taking such a beating behind a porous offensive line. The Bengals have allowed 36 sacks on the season, second-most in the league.

You can mark this down as fact: If the Bengals finish with a high enough draft pick to take Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell, that's a done deal to protect Burrow going forward. As things stand now, Cincinnati would pick third behind the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, who figure to take Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, respectively.

Ryan Finley will take over as Cincinnati's QB the rest of this season if he can remain upright. He was a fourth-round pick out of NC State in the 2019 draft and was quite terrible in relief of Burrow on Sunday, completing just 3 of 10 passes for 30 yards with a pick. Finley was 0-3 as a starter in 2019. The team also has Brandon Allen on the practice squad.

Cincinnati hosts the New York Giants this Sunday with New York opening as a 5-point favorite. On the lookahead lines early last week, the Bengals were -3 so that tells you what oddsmakers think of Finley.
