Jaguars vs. Colts NFL injury report, spread, odds: Jonathan Taylor clear favorite for league rushing title due to Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb issues

Thanks to some issues with other top backs, the NFL rushing title is there for Jonathan Taylor to take.

The last Indianapolis Colts player to win the NFL rushing title was future Hall of Famer Edgerrin James when he repeated in 2000. With two-time rushing king Derrick Henry of the Titans likely out for the season and Nick Chubb of the Browns to miss at least this Sunday's game following a positive COVID test, the 2021 rushing title is clearly there for Indy's Jonathan Taylor to take and he's now the +115 favorite on that prop entering the Colts' Week 10 home game vs. Jacksonville. Click here for model picks.

Henry had foot surgery following a Week 8 injury and probably won't make it back in the regular season but still leads the league with 937 yards on the ground. Chubb is third with 721 yards. He already missed one game with a calf injury and is out at least Sunday due to COVID.

Taylor is second with 821 yards and comes off a monster 19-carry, 172-yard, two-TD game last Thursday in a 45-30 win over the Jets, which included a 78-yard TD run. It was Taylor's third career game with at least 150 rush yards and multiple rush TDs, breaking a tie with Hall of Famers James and Eric Dickerson for the most in Colts franchise history. Taylor is in his second season! He also has the two longest rushes in the NFL this season (83, 78).

Taylor's 5.8 yards per carry average is on pace to finish as the best in the Colts' 38-year Indianapolis era and his 6.8 scrimmage yards per touch is best in the league. The former Wisconsin star leads the league with 1,114 yards from scrimmage and has a streak of six consecutive games with at least 100 scrimmage yards and one rushing TD. With another 100 yards from scrimmage and a rushing score Sunday, he would become fourth player ever to do so in seven consecutive games, joining LaDainian Tomlinson (eight games in 2006), Lydell Mitchell (eight in 1975-76) and Larry Johnson (seven in 2005).

Sportsbooks opened Taylor with an Over/Under of 85.5 rushing yards for Sunday and is -175 to be an anytime TD scorer – he also is the favorite to lead all NFL players in rushing yards. Jacksonville has been decent against the run, allowing 103.4 yards per game. Taylor finished the 2020 regular season against the Jaguars with a franchise-record 253 yards on 30 carries (8.4 average) with two touchdowns.

The Jaguars are expecting to have quarterback Trevor Lawrence and top running back James Robinson on Sunday. J-Rob missed last Sunday's stunning upset of Buffalo with a heel injury (he's officially questionable) and Lawrence suffered a low-ankle sprain. Those you can play through, but high-ankle sprains can lead to multi-week absences.

Rather oddly, the Jaguars are 10-1-1 against the spread vs. the Colts since 2015 and 6-0 ATS as an underdog of at least four points. Indy is -10.5 for Sunday.
