'Hard Knocks: Training camp with the Oakland Raiders' debuts Tuesday

Pretty much no head coach or general manger in the NFL wants his team to be forced to appear on HBO's annual and excellent "Hard Knocks" show. That's why the NFL a few years ago had to come up with a few parameters of which teams could be forced to be on it. For example, teams with first-year head coaches are exempt. A club also can't be picked if it was in the playoffs either of the previous two seasons or has been on the show at any point in the past 10 years.
That left just five teams that could be forced to appear in 2019: Detroit Lions, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders. No offense to those first four teams, but they aren't nearly as interesting heading into this season as the Raiders are, and they were the easy choice. Just having Coach Jon Gruden on camera plenty is entertaining enough. "Hard Knocks" with the Raiders debuts Tuesday night.
Recently, Gruden made news for talking up potential No. 2 quarterback Nathan Peterman, who was arguably the worst passer in NFL history in his two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, completing just 52.3 percent of his passes with three touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a rating of 32.5. Peterman is battling Mike Glennon and Landry Jones to back up Derek Carr.
Carr is one player who hasn't minded the HBO cameras: "You know, coach and I have had a lot of fun with it. They're not in coach and I's meeting room, so we get to plan some stuff and have some fun with them. It's been really cool, to be honest with you, because people get to see us in our real environment."
Carr no doubt will be a big storyline because quarterbacks always are. So should new receiver Antonio Brown, one of the NFL's biggest personalities. The first trailer for the show has promised plenty of Gruden, Carr and Brown. Oakland opens the preseason Saturday as 3-point home favorites vs. the Los Angeles Rams. Obviously, fans will have to wait for footage on that game next Tuesday.
"Hard Knocks" is on every Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.Â
