Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl 57 odds: Squares surpassing coin toss as most-wagered prop so far at sportsbook

The Super Bowl coin toss used to be the most popular Super Bowl wager. Not this year so far at Caesars Sportsbook.

Bettors love wagering on the Super Bowl coin toss because it's one of the rare bets on which players actually have a 50-50 chance of winning. Of course, the book still comes out ahead because of the juice on each side. The Super Bowl coin toss had been the most-wagered prop of them all by quite a large margin in past years, but that's not the case so far at Caesars Sportsbook for Super Bowl 57 between the Chiefs and Eagles. The clear leader is Super Bowl Squares.

Caesars and other sportsbooks in the USA introduced squares last year, similar to the version you likely have seen at a Super Bowl party. Except for typical party squares, you don't get to pick your square because it's a random draw. At Caesars, you get to choose your square -- you pick the last digit of each team's final score and pay a certain "price."

As of this writing, Squares have drawn 59 times more bets than the result of the coin toss. There are 15 individual squares that have more bets than heads and tails combined, with Chiefs 7 and Eagles 4 (+2500) leading the way. Thus, if the Chiefs were to win the Super Bowl 27-24 or the Eagles prevail 24-17, etc., bettors who picked that square would win. The last Super Bowl to finish with a 7 and 4 was when the Giants upset the unbeaten Patriots 17-14 in Super Bowl 42.

"People are familiar with Squares already having done pools at their Super Bowl parties," said Adam Pullen, Assistant Director of Trading at Caesars Sportsbook. "So not only are they used to them, but the odds are more attractive. With the coin toss, it's quick action, but the Squares give you the opportunity to get big payouts and it lasts throughout the whole game. So it makes sense that it's the most popular in terms of number of bets and overall handle."

The current favored square at Caesars is Chiefs 7 and Eagles 0 at +2000, followed by Eagles 7 and Chiefs 0. The most recent Super Bowl with those digits in the final score was Super Bowl 36 when the Rams were upset by the Patriots and a young quarterback named Tom Brady, 20-17. One team has finished on 0 in two of the past three Super Bowls: The Bengals lost 23-20 last year to the Rams, and the 49ers lost 31-20 to the Chiefs three years ago.

The longest-priced squares for Super Bowl 57 at +20000 are: Chiefs 8 and Eagles 9, Chiefs 9 and Eagles 5, Chiefs 2 and Eagles 2, and Chiefs 5 and Eagles 5. The last time a game finished with both teams on the same digit was Super Bowl 53 when the Patriots beat the Rams 13-3. Chiefs 3 and Eagles 3 is +6500.
