Cardinals vs. Lions NFL injury report, spread, odds: DeAndre Hopkins out for regular season, James Conner questionable on short week

Bad news for the Arizona Cardinals regarding Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Monday night was nothing short of a disaster for the Arizona Cardinals. They entered their home game vs. the Los Angeles Rams with a huge advantage considering LA was missing a few key players in COVID protocols. However, the Cardinals were largely dominated in a 30-23 loss. Arizona also lost the chance to control its destiny for the NFC's top seed. Making matters worse: Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins injured his knee and is done for the regular season, and No. 1 running back James Conner is in question Sunday in Detroit with his own injury.

Hopkins suffered a knee injury late in Monday's loss – he didn't have a good game with just five catches for 54 yards on 12 targets and a clear drop on a fourth down in Rams territory – and ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report that Hopkins is done for the rest of the regular season and that it remains to be seen if Hopkins needs surgery that might rule him out for the playoffs, too. Hopkins is getting a second opinion.

The five-time All-Pro had missed three games previously and his 2021 regular season will finish with career lows in catches (42) and yards (572). He did have eight TD catches. The Cards are fairly deep at wideout with AJ Green, Christian Kirk and rookie Rondale Moore, but this is still a hit.

Conner hurt his ankle on the final play Monday and also had an MRI. He's being called day-to-day for now. Dak Prescott will win NFL Comeback Player of the Year, but in nearly every other season Conner would. He had 13 carries for 31 yards and two touchdowns to go with nine catches for 94 yards on Monday and has 964 yards from scrimmage on the season with 16 total TDs, tied for second in the NFL. Fellow tailback Chase Edmonds should be activated off injured reserve for Sunday's game.

Arizona is currently -13 in Detroit. It's the largest the Cards have been as road favorites since they were favored by 14 also in Detroit in 2009. Kyler Murray & Co. are 7-0 SU & ATS on road this season, the first team since 1968 Cowboys to win each of its first seven road games by double digits.

The Cardinals fell from the No. 1 seed in the NFC to the No. 3 with Monday's loss and getting that first-round bye could be the difference on whether Hopkins is able to return for the playoff opener or not.

Via SportsLine oddsmakers: Who will be the NFC's No. 1 playoff seed?

  • Bucs -125
  • Packers +200
  • Cardinals +350
  • Cowboys +1700
