Bucs vs. Packers odds, props, picks: Davante Adams favored as first touchdown scorer in NFC Championship Game
William Hill Sportsbook offers hundreds of props on Sunday's Bucs-Packers NFC Championship Game, but we'll focus on Green Bay wideout Davante Adams, who had the best season in franchise history for a receiver and could win NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors – quarterback Aaron Rodgers is all but a lock to win MVP, and voters usually split those awards. Among the props offered on Adams is that he's the +550 moneyline favorite to be first touchdown scorer Sunday.
It's a bit unusual for a receiver to be the first TD scorer favorite as it's often a running back – Green Bay's Aaron Jones is the second-favorite at +750 – but that's how good Adams has been this season.
Despite missing two full games injured and much of a third, Adams finished the regular season with a league-leading 18 touchdown catches on 115 receptions (tied for second in NFL) and 1,347 yards (tied for fifth). The catches broke Sterling Sharpe's Packers record of 112 set in 1993, and the touchdowns tied Sharpe's mark set in 1994. Adams fell short of Jordy Nelson's team record of 1,519 yards set in 2014, but, again, Adams basically missed three games.
In the divisional round win over the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, Adams was often guarded by perhaps the league's top cornerback in Jalen Ramsey, but Adams still managed nine catches for 66 yards and a 1-yard TD pass from Rodgers in the second quarter. When covered by Ramsey, Adams caught all four of his targets for 28 yards and that TD. Adams' seven career receiving touchdowns in the postseason are tied for second-most in franchise history -- Antonio Freeman leads with 10.
In his past 12 games including playoffs, Adams has failed to catch a touchdown pass just once: Week 15 vs. Carolina in which Adams was held to seven catches for 42 yards; Green Bay didn't pass a lot that day as the running game was dominant.
Tampa Bay, on the other hand, had the NFL's best run defense by far during the regular season in allowing 73.8 yards per game, so the Packers may be pass-heavy on Sunday.
William Hill gives Adams Over/Under totals of 87.5 yards, 7.5 receptions and a longest catch of O/U 25.5 yards. He is -175 to be an anytime TD scorer, +550 to be the last TD scorer of the game, +300 to score two or more touchdowns and +1200 for three or more. Adams to score a touchdown and the Packers to win is +138. Those last props are all yes-only.
Green Bay played its worst game of the season Week 6 in Tampa, losing 38-10. Adams had six catches for 61 yards (no TDs) on 10 targets, tied for his most incomplete targets in a game this season. These were the targeted defenders on Adams:
- Carlton Davis: 3-5 for 33 yards
- Lavonte David: 1-2 for 6 yards
- Devin White: 1-1 for 18 yards
- Sean Murphy-Bunting: 1-1 for 4 yards
- Jamel Dean: 0-1
Free NFL picks: Over yards and receptions, yes on anytime scorer but not first. Under longest reception.
