Bears vs. Chiefs Matt Nagy reunion game reportedly will be played in Frankfurt, Germany, on November 12 or 19

The full 2023 NFL schedule will be released next week, but news is going to trickle out ahead of that. The league staged its first-ever regular-season game in Germany last season and plans to return annually. According to German newspaper BILD, the country this year will host the Chicago Bears against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs – the Matt Nagy Bowl, if you will – in Frankfurt on either Nov. 12 or 19 as one of two games. 

Last year's game was played in Munich between the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the the league banking on the allure of Tom Brady, and the Bucs won 21-16. "That was one of the great football experiences that I've ever had," the seven-time Super Bowl champion said afterward. Brady, incidentally, retired with an unbeaten record abroad.

Kansas City would be the home team for this year's game against Chicago as all AFC teams get the extra home game in 2023, and thus they are all subject to hosting an international matchup. Nagy is the Chiefs' new offensive coordinator, although Andy Reid generally calls plays, after former OC Eric Bieniemy left for Washington.

Nagy was also the OC in Kansas City when the Bears lured him away to be the head coach ahead of the 2018 campaign. That first season was a huge success, as Chicago rode the league's top defense to a 12-4 record and NFC North title. However the Bears lost at home in the wild card game to Philadelphia on kicker Cody Parkey's double-doink near the end of regulation. Things swiftly went downhill for Nagy and the franchise thereafter. He was replaced ahead of last season by Matt Eberflus.

It makes sense that the NFL would send the Chiefs to Germany to help cultivate the market, as they are one of the league's marquee franchises and have the biggest star in two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City is a +600 favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to repeat as Super Bowl champion and Mahomes the +650 leader to win a third MVP.

We still await which team the Chiefs will host in the annual Kickoff Game to start the season, but at least we can subtract Chicago from the candidates.

The Bears-Chiefs matchup will be one of two games at Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank Park this year with Saints-Patriots set as the other, but it's not yet known which game will be played on which date.
