We've seen that Gardner Minshew is a capable NFL quarterback who arguably played far beyond expectation in Jacksonville given the state of that franchise. Minshew's throwing will make up for whatever the Eagles lose without having Jalen Hurts' legs to lean on. Philadelphia is the superior team in this game, and its offense will be just fine toting the rock against New York's porous run defense as Minshew compliments the running game with a couple big throws to DeVonta Smith. A touchdown win for Philly is likely as the Jets’ last six losses have all come by seven points or more.
I believe this is the first time that I've backed the Jets all season and it probably will be the last. Reports are that Jalen Hurts will not play and he's the entirety of that Philly offense. We have Minshew Mania on our hands. I'm guessing this number drops a bit more so we shall take it now.
This number has dipped a bit as it doesn't sound promising that Jalen Hurts -- a game-time decision -- will be able to go. That's fine, because Gardner Minshew would still be the better QB in this matchup. The Jets offense has been better off with backups than with rookie Zach Wilson, and I expect Philly to get back on track after a game it shouldn't have lost to the Giants. Lay the points.
Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts, doubtful with a hip ailment, would rue missing this matchup. The Jets are pushovers against the run, and Hurts figured to pad his rushing totals. Backup Gardner Minshew is more of a traditional drop-back QB. New York's Zach Wilson is back in the saddle after recovering from injury, but his team has piled up more points with seasoned replacements.
Jalen Hurts is questionable for this game despite sounding earlier in the week like he would play. But that's not going to stop me from laying the points. Zach Wilson was only 14 of 24 for 145 yards against an awful Houston defense last week, so it's not like the offense played well in the win. And the Eagles defense did a phenomenal job holding the Giants to 13 points despite all the turnovers. The Eagles have topped 200 yards on the ground in four of their last five, and I don't expect Hurts' injury to slow them down. Wait to see if Hurts is ruled out before kick and lay the number after the dip, but either way, Philadelphia wins by at least seven.
