There are a ton of reasons to pick against the Steelers here, including being on a short week. However, they are too talented and too well-coached for this losing streak to continue. Philip Rivers is a warm-weather/dome quarterback, and it will be Steeler weather today. Indy just never wins in Steel Town.
It's hard to back the Steelers after how bad they've looked the last three games, but this is the spot to do it. The Colts allow 7.0 yards per pass attempt, which ranks 22nd. That works well for a Steelers team that cannot run the ball. In addition, Indy will be missing stud left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee, ankle), with the beatable Chaz Green likely to replace him because normal backup La'Raven Clark is on IR. Right tackle Braden Smith (Reserve/COVID-19 list) also is out. Look for the Steelers' still formidable defense to force Philip Rivers into mistakes as Pittsburgh snaps its slide.
With the Colts now down both starting tackles for this game, the Steelers have a better chance of getting back on track and ending a three-game losing streak. But can we trust their flagging offense against the Colts? Yes, Indy's once good defense has been shaky in recent weeks, but they've played a run of great offenses, facing the Titans and Texans twice plus the Packers and Raiders in their last six games. They're weaker in the deep passing game, but we know Ben Roethlisberger has no interest throwing it down the field. Expect a defensive battle, and should it come down to the kicking game, note that this one's being played at Heinz Field, where long field goal attempts go to die.
Pittsburgh’s 11-0 straight-up record was built on a house of cards, and the foundation is showing cracks. The receivers have a severe case of the dropsies. QB Ben Roethlisberger grows more frustrated by the week. The Colts have quietly won five of the past six outright, scoring 31.8 per, and have covered four in a row on the road. The Steelers have stayed south of 20 points in the last four weeks. Expecting a recovery against the No. 7 defense is a pipe dream.
I don't think the Steelers are going to win another game. There's something wrong with Ben Roethlisberger, and this entire offense. Philip Rivers continues to play mistake-free football. Lay the small number.
