In years past, my picking this game was predicated on the Green Bay offense vs. the Minnesota defense. And I've largely hit in this rivalry because of it. But despite the Vikings' tremendous Week 1 performance, what stood out to me is how well the Packers played defensively and how much belief their own offense has in that unit, which could not be said in the past. Green Bay clearly has the home-field advantage here with the better quarterback, and while I do think Minnesota has an edge at the playmaking positions, it's not great enough to make up for Rodgers being backed up by a solid D for once. Rolling with the Pack here.
Green Bay's offense looked rusty against the Bears on prime time during the Packers' Week 1 victory. And facing another divisional rival in Week 2 is a tricky spot for the Packers. They’ll be tested on a different level defensively and will need to find rhythm against the Vikings vaunted defense. Expect first year coach Matt LeFleur’s new wrinkles to lead to an edge in the fourth quarter. Grab Green Bay.
This line has finally tipped from three, so I'm hopping on the Packers. Green Bay typically features one of the better home-field advantages in the league when Aaron Rodgers is healthy, and I don't know that we can definitively say which is better going into this matchup. That means we have value with the Packers, who look to have a much better defense this year that will get to face Kirk Cousins, who didn't have to do much of anything in his team's blowout win in Week 1. I have more faith in Rodgers pulling off a comeback if he gets behind than vice versa.
The Packers haven’t beat the Vikings in their last four meetings. They met in Green Bay in Week 2 last season as a 2-point favorite and tied the Vikings. That makes Minnesota 3-1 ATS in the last four with the three wins staying Under the total. Seven of the last nine meetings between Green Bay and Minnesota have stayed Under. I’m looking for the Under again on Sunday.
This series has featured a lot of Unders in recent seasons, and based on what we saw in Week 1 from both these teams, I think we have a good chance of hitting the Under again in this game. The Packers defense appears to have taken a big step forward with its personnel additions, and while I think the Green Bay offense will be better than it looked against the Bears, the Vikings have one of the best defenses in the league as well. Expect Green Bay to grind out a win in a low-scoring game for the second week in a row.
