While the Bengals have been up-and-down all season, the Chiefs have been one of the most consistent teams in the league. No, Kansas City is not undefeated any longer -- New England took care of that last week -- but it took a miraculous Tom Brady drive for that to happen. The Chiefs will fall again at some point, but I don't see it being at home in a night game against a Bengals team that is allowing over 400 yards per game to far worse offenses. Unless Cincinnati finds a way to keep Patrick Mahomes in the pocket and take him down consistently, I think this is a double-digit win by KC.
Due to the Chiefs' defensive metrics keeping their rating down, we're going to keep getting decent numbers on them. Their defense ranks last in the NFL allowing 468 ypg, but their offense is so polished and unstoppable they keep covering the numbers. They're the only 6-0 ATS team in the league. Now they're at home and after facing good New England and Jacksonville defenses the past two weeks they get the Bengals' tired defense that allows 409 ypg. Let's agree to stop playing the Chiefs to cover when they eventually don't. But until then, ride the wave. Chiefs are the play.
Naturally, a game that is flirting with a sky-high total would include Kansas City. But Cincinnati, too? True, the Bengals have discarded their close-to-the-vest offense of years past, but they are by no means explosive. This total is only a point below the one for K.C.’s matchup last Sunday with New England, whose offense is superior to Cincy’s. The Bengals’ totals this season have been in the 40s except for one game. At some point, gravity will kick in with K.C., and its scores will descend.
The Bengals have been one of the more balanced teams in the NFL this season. Also, their defense has been quite good as well. This will be a challenge like the Steelers game a week ago, facing the red-hot offense of the Chiefs, whose defense still has issues in getting off the field and getting key stops, especially in the passing game. I would expect this game to be as close as we saw both teams play last week, with the Bengals coming in a bit more ticked off after how last week concluded. Take the Bengals and the points.
This is a rough spot for the Chiefs coming off that huge game at New England. The Bengals can score and K.C. doesn't have a defense. I think Cincy will keep pace with the Chiefs, keep it close.
The Chiefs have covered in every game this season, including Sunday night's exciting last-season loss at New England. The Bengals are getting a lot of respect from oddsmakers, but my computer projections see a double-digit KC home win, easily covering in nearly 60 percent of simulations overall. Back the home Chiefs.
