Thunder vs. Lakers injury report, odds, spread: Isaiah Roby, Theo Maledon, Mike Muscala out; Anthony Davis also expected to sit Monday
The biggest favorites on the William Hill Sportsbook NBA odds board for Monday night are the Los Angeles Lakers at -10 over the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, that number could drop a few points when it becomes official later this afternoon (presumably) that Lakers All-Star Anthony Davis will sit it out with right Achilles tendinitis. Then again, the Thunder will be missing three rotation guys in Isaiah Roby, Theo Maledon and Mike Muscala. Check out the SportsLine Projection Model's pick for this game.Â
Davis and LeBron James are listed on the Lakers' first injury report ahead of every game as questionable with one malady or another, but while LeBron has played in every game Davis has missed a few, and it would be an upset if he goes Monday. He's averaging 22.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 blocks per game – ESPN's player efficiency rating lists Davis as slightly better this year at 24.42 than William Hill NBA MVP betting favorite LeBron (24.40).
Kyle Kuzma likely would start for Davis and Markieff Morris would get more playing time. The Lakers probably figure they can beat the short-handed Thunder without Davis – the teams play again Wednesday in Los Angeles.
Oklahoma City's Roby is out with right foot soreness, Maledon in the COVID protocols and Muscala in the concussion protocol. Roby, in his second NBA season, has started eight of 18 games (usually whenever Al Horford is out) and averaging 8.6 points and 4.7 rebounds. Maledon, a rookie, has started six games and is averaging 7.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds. Muscala averages 9.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in about 18 minutes a night. OKC remains without guard George Hill, too, as he will miss around three more weeks after thumb surgery last week.
The Thunder hosted the Lakers on Jan. 13 and were blasted 128-99. LeBron had 26 points, seven assists and six rebounds, and Davis 18 points and seven rebounds. Neither played even 30 minutes with the game a rout. In fact, it marked the Lakers' largest winning margin in the series since the Thunder relocated to Oklahoma City.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who returned from a two-game injury absence of his own Saturday, led OKC with 17 points in the first meeting. The Thunder have covered the spread in four of their past five at the Lakers.Â
