Rockets vs. Thunder injury report, NBA odds, spread: John Wall, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out Wednesday; betting total has dropped nearly 4 points
The Houston Rockets haven't won back-to-back games in Oklahoma City since the 2014-15 season but have the chance to accomplish that Wednesday as they teams meet for the second time in three nights in OKC. Both will be missing their starting point guards, however, as the Rockets have ruled out John Wall simply to rest in the front end of a back-to-back, while the Thunder will sit Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with a minor knee injury. Houston opened as a 5-point favorite with a total of 224 at William Hill Sportsbook, but the Rockets are now -7 and the total at 220.5.
Houston won its season-high sixth game in a row Monday, 136-106 in Oklahoma City – four of those six victories have been by double digits. Monday's game was over after a quarter when the Rockets tied an NBA record for a quarter by making 11 three-pointers on the way to a 48-24 lead.
Wall scored the first eight points for the Rockets and finished with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. The team probably won't let him play in both ends of a back-to-back all season considering all the surgeries he has had in recent years. Wall is third on the team in scoring at 17.8 ppg and first in assists (5.8 apg). Usual sixth man Eric Gordon should slide into the starting five. He's averaging 20.0 points during the six-game winning streak and had 25 on Monday.
Late Wednesday night, the Gilgeous-Alexander news came down that he was dealing with a left knee sprain in a minor surprise as he didn't look hurt at all Monday when he led OKC with 19 points and five assists. He also leads the club in scoring (21.8 ppg; only player above 12.4 ppg) and assists (6.3 apg) on the season. This will be his first game missed this season.
OKC will definitely be thin in the backcourt as the team ruled out George Hill for about a month on Tuesday following surgery on his thumb. He was averaging 11.8 points and 3.1 assists in 14 starts this season, shooting 50.8% from the field. Hill hadn't played since Jan. 24.
Even with Monday's win the Rockets are 1-6 against the spread in their past seven at the Thunder.Â
