NBA Free Agency roundup: Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving reportedly joining Brooklyn Nets

The NBA free agency period officially began Sunday evening, with Durant and Irving among several All-Stars inking new, huge deals.

Kevin Durant has chosen his new team. So has Kyrie Irving. And it's the same one. Two of the biggest NBA free agents on the market this off-season will reportedly be teammates in Brooklyn -- when Durant hits the court again, anyway.

Durant, the 10-time All-Star, one-time NBA MVP and two-time champion with the Golden State Warriors, announced his intention to sign the maximum four-year, $164-million deal with the Nets. Irving, the six-time All-Star point guard who helped the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers to a NBA title in 2016, revealed his plan to ink a four-year, $141-million contract with Brooklyn as well.

According to SportsLine data engineer Stephen Oh, the addition of Durant and Irving to the Nets boosts Brooklyn's chances of winning the 2021 title -- from zero to six percent. That's when Durant finally plays; he is likely to miss all of 2019-20 recovering from an Achilles injury suffered in the NBA Finals.

DeAndre Jordan has also reportedly agreed to a deal to bring him from the Knicks to the Nets.

The Nets are the headline-makers so far in what's expected to be a frenzied week of NBA free agency that still includes Kawhi Leonard and his up-in-the-air plans.

In other news Sunday in the NBA free agency arena:

*Kemba Walker agreed to join the Boston Celtics -- the team that lost Irving to Brooklyn -- to a four-year contract for the same amount of money Irving will get.

The Celtics were among the big winners in the odds to win the 2019-20 NBA title, moving from 25-1 to 16-1. On the flip side, the Hornets skyrocketed from 200-1 odds to 1000-1.

*Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis, who hasn't played a game in more than a year and none since being traded to Dallas last season, has agreed to a five-year deal with the Mavs.

*Bucks All-Star swingman Khris Middleton agreed to the maximum five-year, $178-million deal to remain in Milwaukee. It's the richest contract ever given to a player selected in the second round of the NBA Draft. The Bucks also reportedly will ink Brook Lopez to four years.

*The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly close to securing four-time All-Star guard Damian Lillard to a four-year, $196 million supermax deal. He still has two years remaining on his current contract, so he's locked up through 2025 with Portland.

*Nikola Vucevic, who led the Orlando Magic to their first playoff berth since 2012, is expected to sign a $100 million, four-year deal.

*Also, Bucks guard Malcolm Brodgon is expected to sign with the Pacers, 76ers sharpshooter JJ Redick will reportedly join the Pelicans and Pacers forward Bojan Bogdanovic is going to Utah to play for the Jazz.

The Knicks, who has 60-1 odds to win the 2020 NBA title prior to Sunday, saw that number jump to 200-1 after failing to land Durant or Irving. The Lakers are huge favorites, at 8-5 odds, with the Bucks next at 7-1.
