It’s a bullpen day for New York. Despite their struggles this season, the Yankees currently own the best bullpen in the AL, 3.31 ERA. New York faces left-hander Tarik Skubal and they have been hitting .362 with a .956 OPS against lefties on the road in August. The Tigers are hitting .204 with a .666 OPS over their last seven days and while Skubal has been very good, he’s allowed four or more earned runs in four of his last seven starts.
The Yankees have produced vs lefties this season, and boast a near 1.000 OPS in the last month vs southpaws. Tarik Skubal has consistently pitched into the 6th inning in recent starts but even if he can stifle the Yankees, the Detroit bullpen is liable to blow the game, with a 5.24 ERA in August. Skubal has also given up four runs in two of his last three starts, so it's not like he's been great either. Michael King and the Yankees bullpen have been a bright spot so far, and King has looked serviceable in his time as a starter. Yankees have the bullpen edge and their big arms should all be available.
The New York Yankees are attempting to win consecutive road games for the first time since June 29th. Today should be a great opportunity against a Detroit Tigers team that has a taxed bullpen. Over the last three games they have given up 21 runs. Expect the Yankees to take advantage once Tarik Skubal exits. Grab the Yankees.
