Week 7 QB power rankings: Betting the MVP race, rest of season projections, how to treat injuries and full tiers
We analyze the state of the quarterback position heading into Week 7 of the 2023 NFL season
Our top tier of NFL quarterbacks is unchanged this week, in part because something else has not changed about the trio this season.
Each has evaded the injury bug that has infected other QBs. None has missed playing time. In fact, their backups have hurled just five passes combined, mostly in mop-up minutes.
In Week 6, which concludes Monday night, three starters were laid up: Anthony Richardson (Colts), Deshaun Watson (Browns) and Daniel Jones (Giants). Four more were knocked out of Sunday's games: Ryan Tannehill (Titans), Justin Fields (Bears), Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars) and Jimmy Garoppolo (Raiders).
They join a line that wraps around the corner of QBs whose ailments have had them out of segments of or entire games. Then there is Justin Herbert (Chargers), whose fractured finger on his left hand would shelve him were it on the right one.
Evidence of the job hazards can be found in one amazing statistic. In Week 6, half of the 30 offenses allowed at least three sacks. And how about Tennessee's Malik Willis, who was dragged down four times in one quarter of work — and lived to tell about it?
As you scroll through our rankings, which are nearly identical from the previous week, keep in mind that we include the usual starters if they are sidelined for the short term. For apparent or confirmed long-range absences — such as Richardson, who reportedly is considering a season-ending shoulder operation — it's next man up.
On to our updated tiers, along with each player's MVP odds if applicable, a QB2 rating that indicates how much a team's power rating is downgraded if the starter is out and projected fantasy points per game.
