Week 2 College Football odds, predictions: Parlay picks, best bets for SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, Pac-12 for the weekend of September 10th, 2022

Get parlays for college football's Power Five conferences, plus one massive combined parlay that would pay more than 145-1!

ByCohensCornerAZPublished: Sep 09, 2022 7:32PM UTC . 9 min read

It's around 8:30 p.m. ET last Saturday night and I'm finally getting around to watching college football on television after an epic day of sports in San Diego. I saw my Arizona Wildcats win their first road game since October 2019 (38-20 over San Diego State) in a sweltering, brand-new SnapDragon Stadium, followed by a trip to Del Mar Racetrack, to see the incredible Flightline win the Grade I TVG Pacific Classic in an awe-inspiring performance. My massive +17500 parlay was 4-0 and I was dreaming big. A chance to hit it in my first SportsLine column? It would've capped off an absolutely perfect sports day for me. All I needed was:

Notre Dame +17.5 at Ohio State, Georgia State +12.5 at South Carolina, Utah -3 at Florida, and Utah State-Alabama Over 62.5. The Fighting Irish were never in danger of not covering so 5-0 seems easy. Georgia State is up 14-12 in the third quarter! Utah is ahead by four with two minutes left! And Alabama dropped 55 points in the first 35 minutes of the game so that should be a gimme, right?

The reality of sports gambling can come at you fast (as I learned once again). Utah gave up a touchdown and lost on an interception in the end zone in the final 30 seconds. Georgia State gave up 23 unanswered points to blow the cover. And the last 25 minutes of Utah State-Alabama resulted in zero points with the game ending 55-0. A 5-3 week with zero conference parlays hit. Week 1 went from a betting dream to a nightmare in the span of 90 minutes.

So it's time to make amends in Week 2, which features some interesting games on the slate. Texas can't be three touchdowns worse at home than Alabama, right? Pittsburgh's defense got bulldozed by West Virginia in last Thursday's Backyard Brawl; will Tennessee fare just as well or better? Is USC the Pac-12's last serious hope of anything positive in 2022?

I'll answer those questions in this column as well as take a look at a fascinating slate of late-Saturday games; Baylor-BYU, Oregon State-Fresno State, and Mississippi State vs. my Arizona Wildcats in Tucson (where I'll be).

Once again, the purpose of this column each week is to find the best parlay bets by conference. I'll try to keep each wager between two and four picks but the combined parlay of my favorite picks at the bottom of the column each week will be our lottery ticket. Hit one of those all season and it should get us a guaranteed season profit.

All lines are from Caesars Sportsbook.

SEC parlay picks

Kentucky-Florida Under 52.5 total points
South Carolina-Arkansas Over 53 total points
Missouri +8 at Kansas State
Parlay Odds: +596 (1 unit)

Both Florida and Kentucky seemingly have more potent offenses in 2022 than in recent years but the last four matchups between these two teams have finished under that total. Sticking with the historical trend, seven of the last eight SC-ARK matchups have gone over this year's total dating back to 2007. Sometimes historical trends are more valuable in the early part of the season than one or two weeks worth of 2022 data. I've never been an Adrian Martinez fan dating back to his seemingly 20-year college career at Nebraska. I don't see him as the 2022 QB savior that Kansas State has been hoping for. At the same time, I was impressed by Mizzou last Thursday night. I see this as a 4-point KSU win, so give me the Tigers and the points.

Game Record: 1-2 last week, 1-2 overall
Conference Parlay Record: 0 of 1 overall (-1.5 units)

BIG TEN parlay picks

Arkansas State-Ohio State Over 68.5 total points
Virginia-Illinois Under 57 total points
Georgia Southern +23.5 at Nebraska
Parlay Odds: +596 (1.5 units)

Coming off last week's 21-point offensive dud vs. Notre Dame, it would be a shock to see Ohio State score fewer than seven touchdowns against Butch Jones' Arkansas State squad. The Red Wolves should be able to score at least twice to hit the over. In Bret Bielema's 14 games as Illinois' coach, only two have gone over 57 total points. I'll take my chances with the Under yet again. Based on what we've seen from Nebraska, who struggled to beat North Dakota by three touchdowns, are you really comfortable taking them to cover more than that against a pass-happy Georgia Southern team? Plus Eagles QB Kyle Vantrease faced the Cornhuskers last year as a member of Buffalo in a 28-3 loss. He's familiar with the environment in Lincoln and won't be intimidated this time around.

Game Record: 1-2 last week, 1-2 overall
Conference Parlay Record: 0 of 1 overall (-1 unit)

ACC parlay picks

Miami -25.5 vs. Southern Mississippi
Duke-Northwestern Under 58.5 total points
Tennessee-Pittsburgh Under 66 total points
Parlay Odds: +596 (1.5 units)

It's hard to see Tyler Van Dyke and the Hurricanes not lighting up the scoreboard... though if there's once concern, it's that Miami may call off the dogs early as they're on the road to face Texas A&M in next week's spotlight game. Nine of Northwestern's 2021 games finished under 56 total points. Duke is coming off of a shutout against Temple. The early line movement upward has me mildly concerned but I'll go with my gut and the Under. Last week's Pitt-West Virginia game was a fun shootout that the Panthers won late on a fluky interception return for a touchdown. Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi is a great defensive mind who realizes that his team likely can't beat Tennessee in a shootout. Look for Pitt to control the clock and keep the game significantly under the high total.

Game Record: 2-1 last week, 2-1 overall
Conference Parlay Record: 0 of 1 overall (-1 unit)

BIG 12 parlay picks

Texas +20 vs. Alabama
Oklahoma State -11 vs. Arizona State
Houston ML (+122) at Texas Tech
BYU ML (-170) vs. Baylor
Parlay Odds: +1185 (0.75 units)

Thanks Louisiana-Monroe for getting super-whooped by Texas and ruining my Week 1 Big 12 parlay. Alabama should score an easy 40+ on the soft Texas defense... so can the Longhorns muster at least 20? I think so. Bijan Robinson is the best running back in college football and this is his chance to shine in the supposed game of the week. Give me 'Bama by no more than 17. Oklahoma State got trashed in garbage time by Central Michigan's Daniel Richardson but their offense was nearly unstoppable. ASU lost quite a lot in the offseason and I don't think they're within two touchdowns on the road. Houston truly deserved to lose on the road to UTSA last week and last year got smoked at home, 38-21 by Texas Tech. Red Raiders starting quarterback Tyler Shough is out, which makes me like the Cougars even more in a revenge spot. Speaking of Cougars, BYU is chasing a College Football Playoff spot as an Independent, Notre Dame-style. This week's matchup vs. Baylor is a showcase game at night at home. I don't have a strong feel on the 3.5 but love the Cougs to win outright in a fun, close game.

Game Record: 2-1 last week, 2-1 overall
Conference Parlay Record: 0 of 1 overall (-1 unit)

PAC-12 parlay picks

USC -9 at Stanford
Fresno State ML (+100) vs. Oregon State
Arizona + 11 vs. Mississippi State (PLAY OF THE WEEK)
Parlay Odds: +629 (2 units)

You would think that since I live on the West Coast, I'd know the Pac-12 better than to go 0-3 in Week 1. I'm feeling very confident about a bounce-back. I'm not sure how USC is only -9 against Stanford. David Shaw's teams historically give the Trojans trouble but it won't happen this week. I'd be shocked if this result was anything less than a two-touchdown USC victory. I didn't expect Oregon State to win last week at home vs. Boise State but they put a whooping on the Broncos. Fresno State has a veteran QB in Jake Haener and should prevail in a fun game at home. I may be biased, but Arizona is my play of the week. This line is too inflated considering the Wildcats have 60+ new players from last season, look A LOT better than the previous three seasons, it's an 8 p.m. local start time (10 p.m. Mississippi time), and the desert heat. I'm not picking the 'Cats outright but this spread should be no more than six points. I can't wait to be there just in case the outright upset happens. Here comes a 3-0 week!

Game Record: 0-3 last week, 0-3 overall
Conference Parlay Record: 0 of 1 overall (-1 unit)
