Lamar Jackson locked it all up -- not only the league's Most Valuable Player honors, but the leading spot in our season-ending quarterback ratings.

Baltimore's Jackson on Sunday distanced himself in style from his fellow MVP candidates as well as other starting QBs with a perfect passer-rating game. (For readers expecting an explanation of the convoluted formula for which the "perfect" number is 158.3, sorry. Above our pay grade.)

Jackson was typically sublime against Miami. He laughed in the face of blitzes, rarely feeling any heat. He was efficient to the max, turning 18 completions into five touchdowns and 321 yards. He scattered three incompletions over three hours. He affirmed that a rocket arm is unnecessary as his softly unfurled balls found the mark repeatedly without an interception. For good measure, he stirred in the usual rushing yards — 35 from six carries. 

For much of the year, Jackson did not even qualify for our first tier. His ascent was triggered not just by individual excellence but team success. The Ravens nailed down the AFC's No. 1 seed Sunday with a week to spare.

The NFL can safely go ahead and ship another MVP trophy to Jackson before voting is tabulated.

As for our No. 1 ranking, budgetary limitations prohibit us from offering a physical award. Instead, please accept our heartiest congratulations. And keep in mind those bragging rights are priceless.
