Warriors vs. Cavaliers Thursday NBA injury report, odds: Steph Curry could be game-time decision (spread set as playing), Andre Iguodala out
Golden State could be without Steph Curry on Thursday in Cleveland.
Thursday's game in Cleveland could be shaping up as a bit of a letdown affair for the Golden State Warriors off their huge win in Brooklyn on Tuesday night in a possible NBA Finals preview. With the Warriors playing again Friday in Detroit, they might rest superstar Steph Curry tonight as he's listed questionable. Oddsmakers are pricing the Warriors as if Curry will play as 8.5-point favorites. That would likely drop at least to -5 if he doesn't.
Curry is being listed with a left hip contusion, although no one seems to know what that happened. The two-time MVP only had to play 29 minutes Tuesday because the game was out of hand and had 37 points, five rebounds and five assists in completely outplaying former teammate Kevin Durant.
Curry has taken over the NBA scoring lead at 28.7 ppg with Durant at 28.6. Curry is also now the +225 MVP favorite at Caesars Sportsbook. He has not missed a game this season or even been listed as questionable. Golden State is the only team this year to score at least 100 points in every game.
If Curry is held out, Damion Lee, Gary Payton II and Jordan Poole should see an increased role. Iguodala is fine but simply being rested in the front end of a B2B – he probably won't play both ends all season. The Dubs don't really even need him until the playoffs. Rookie Jonathan Kuminga, who has been impressive in short bursts so far this season, should see more minutes Thursday.
It's the second of a back-to-back for Cleveland, which lost 109-99 at the Nets on Wednesday playing without Rookie of the Year favorite Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Collin Sexton and Lauri Markkanen. Kevin Love returned from a COVID absence and had 11 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes. Markkanen might return from his tonight. Allen is also dealing with an illness that is apparently not COVID. Mobley and Sexton are out multiple weeks each.
Golden State has won eight in a row vs. Cleveland. The last time the Cavaliers defeated the Warriors was on Christmas 2016 when the Cavs had Love, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
