The UEFA Champions League's first-ever knockout phase playoffs began with four matches yesterday, and there are another four on tap for today. The teams that finished ninth through 24th have to compete in this round in order to face the eight top teams waiting for them in the Round of 16. There were a few surprising names that have to fight for their Champions League lives in this stage, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich began UCL play with a dominant 9-2 triumph over Dinamo Zagreb, but dropped three of the next seven matches to end up in the knockout phase playoffs. Now they will battle with Celtic for the chance to advance to the Round of 16, with the first leg at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland today at 3 p.m. ET. Bayern Munich has made the Round of 16 in the last 20 Champions League campaigns, including winning the entire tournament in 2012-13 and 2019-20.
