Tuesday, June 20 MLB odds, props: Heavy action on Marlins' Luis Arraez vs. Blue Jays

Miami's Luis Arraez is flirting with .400 again.

No qualified hitter in Major League Baseball has finished with a .400 batting average since the great Ted Williams did so in 1941, and it's quite possible we'll never see another .400 hitter again with how hard modern-day pitchers throw and the fact that batters might see 3-4 different hurlers per game. Miami's Luis Arraez is testing that assumption. He leads the majors with exactly a .400 average, and Arraez Over 1.5 combined hits, runs and RBI at -130 vs. Toronto is among the most-wagered MLB hitting props tonight at DraftKings.

Last week in Seattle, Arraez was hitless in 15 at-bats but has regained his stroke since with a three-game hitting streak in which he's a combined 11-for-14 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Monday's rout of Toronto marked the second time in his past three games that Arraez went 5-for-5. He became the fourth major leaguer since 1900 to have three five-hit games in a calendar month, joining three Hall of Famers: George Sisler (August 1921), Ty Cobb (July 1922) and Dave Winfield (June 1984).

Arraez, the 2022 AL batting champion at .316 with the Twins, has 11 days to try to become the first player since 1900 with four five-hit games in a month, which would match the most in a season in that span, joining Cobb (1922), Stan Musial (1948), Tony Gwynn (1993) and Ichiro Suzuki (2004). Arraez's three five-hit games are already the most in a single season in Marlins history.

Miami has played 73 games so far this year. Arraez has tied Braves legend Chipper Jones for the second-most team games into a season that a qualified player has been hitting .400 since 2000. Jones was hitting .400 this far into the season in 2008 and finished at .364. Boston's Nomar Garciaparra was hitting at .400 a total of 91 team games deep into the 2000 season and finished at .372.

Toronto starts lefty Yusei Kikuchi (6-2, 4.31 ERA) tonight. He he's allowed two earned runs in four straight outings but hasn't topped five innings in any of them. Kikuchi has a 4.87 road ERA in six starts. Arraez has a single in four career at-bats against him. At home this season, Arraez is batting .437 with no homers, 21 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Other popular hitting props tonight at DraftKings:

  • Marlins' Jorge Soler Over 0.5 Home Runs (+310) vs. Blue Jays
  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-145) vs. Rockies
  • Angels' Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 Hits (-220) vs. Dodgers
  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo Over 0.5 Hits (-180) at Brewers
