Tony Romo Favored To Make NFL Hall of Fame

On Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo announced he was hanging up his cleats after 13 NFL seasons and joining CBS as the network's lead color commentator.

Romo, who turns 37 in April, has played just five games over the last two seasons due to injury.

He threw for 248 career touchdowns against 117 interceptions in 127 starts.

Now that Romo is likely retired for good, fans and media alike are wondering whether he'll end up in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The former Cowboys signal caller ranks 29th all-time in passing yards and 21st in TDs. His career passing rating of 97.1 is the fourth-best of all time.

The knock against him: a 2-4 playoff record, including a very memorable botched hold on a 19-yard field goal attempt in Seattle 10 years ago.

“If Romo had won a Super Bowl, he would be a shoe-in,” Vegas oddsmaker and SportsLine expert Kenny White said. “However, even with more passing yards and TD passes than Steve Young, Kurt Warner, and the Cowboys' Troy Aikman, I think Romo is a slight underdog to get in.”

"Romo isn't a Hall of Fame player in my book," CBS Sports' Pete Prisco said. "He is in the Hall of Very Good. He's also in the Hall of Under-appreciated."

NFL.com's Elliot Harrison agreed, in part. "The reality is that so much of a quarterback's general reputation is based on winning," he said. "It's a trash reality. But in the minds of Hall voters, his two postseason wins won't be enough."

Sporting News' Ron Clements echoed those sentiments: "If there was a Hall of Very Good, Romo is a shoe-in, but it's a tougher sell when it comes to the Hall of Fame."

He's a +135 underdog to be left out, meaning you'd win $135 on a $100 bet.
