Today's top picks: Yankees to beat the Red Sox is among best bets, plus more MLB and WNBA picks for Thursday, July 7

SportsLine's proven experts share their favorite bets on the Early Edge podcast for Thursday, July 7

By@SportsLineUpdated: Jul 07, 2022 2:54PM UTC . 4 min read

Host Allan Bell is joined by Mike McClure, Alex "PropStarz" Selesnick and Calvin Wetzel on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get highlighted plays for MLB and WNBA for Thursday, July 7, and you can stream the show live every morning on the SportsLine YouTube page.

Bell starts off by recapping a brutal day for the crew, but he has a strong lineup ready to get things rolling again. The host then offers up THREE Sportsline Plays of the Day. The first is an MLB pick from the Marlins vs. Mets matchup (7:10 p.m. ET). The site likes Miami to go Over the team total of 3.5 runs (-145) against New York starter Trevor Williams (1-5, 4.34 ERA).

The second site play is another MLB team total pick, and it is Over 2.5 runs (-165) for Detroit in the Tigers vs. White Sox matchup (8:10 p.m. ET). The Tigers have topped this number in 11 of their past 12 games.

The third MLB pick is the Yankees -160 against the Red Sox (7:10 p.m. ET), as Boston has lost eight of its past 10 against New York. The Yankees are allowing well under three runs per game, and McClure's earlier weather report suggests a good hitting environment, so their bats could explode Thursday night.

Mike has his own MLB pick, also from the Yankees vs. Red Sox game. He is going Over 4.5 on New York's team total (-110), as he is not impressed by Red Sox expected starter Josh Winckowski. The right-hander's numbers have not been good at home, and Boston used up most of its bullpen Wednesday. "Rough spot for the Red Sox here," McClure says, and he advises you grab this as soon as you can. He expects the total to rise to 5.5 at plus money.

Calvin has a WNBA pick, taking the Los Angeles Sparks +5.5 (-110) against the Seattle Storm (10:30 p.m. ET). "The Storm in the last couple of seasons have not played very well coming off a game in which they did play very well," Wetzel says. "They're 3-11 after basically a blowout win, a win by 12-plus points." He adds that they are just 6-15 straight-up following a game in which they covered the spread. Seattle beat Indiana 95-73 on Tuesday and will be without Sue Bird for Thursday's matchup.

PropStars has one MLB prop play, taking Baltimore pitcher Jordan Lyles Over 4.5 strikeouts (-110) in Orioles vs. Angels (7:05 p.m. ET). Lyles has gone over this number in just half his starts (eight of 16), "however, this is an unbelievable matchup on paper," Selesnick says. "The Angels are averaging 9.66 strikeouts per game, they have a monstrous 27 percent K rate versus opposing right-handed pitchers, as well." PropStarz's model has Lyles projected for 6.5 strikeouts, so it's a huge edge and you need to grab it now.
