Today's top picks: Oilers to beat the Avalanche among best bets, plus MLB and MMA picks for Saturday, June 4
SportsLine's proven experts share their favorite bets on the Early Edge podcast for Saturday, June 4
Allan Bell is joined by Mike McClure, John Bollman and Andrew Gombas on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get highlighted plays for MLB, NHL Playoffs and MMA for Saturday, June 4, and you can stream the show live every morning on the SportsLine YouTube page.
After discussing the trends and storylines, Allan offers up the SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first is from the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the Avalanche vs. Oilers Game 3 set for 8 p.m. ET. SportsLine is backing the Oilers +110, as they have won 68 percent of their home games straight-up this season.
The second play is from Jon "Buckets" Eimer on the CONCACAF Nations League, and Jon is taking Both Teams to Score (+110) in the Suriname vs. Jamaica match (7 p.m. ET).
Mike has an MLB pick, going with Padres Over 3.5 (+110) against the Brewers (4:10 p.m. ET). Milwaukee is starting left-hander Aaron Ashby, who has been solid this season. But the Padres are "very good against left-handed pitching, rate top-10 in Major League Baseball, coming in at No. 8," McClure says. "Love them on the road here." San Diego also draws a lot of walks, so it should get a lot of opportunities to score.
Bollman also has an MLB pick, taking the Rays -120 against the White Sox (4:10 p.m. ET). Chicago starter Dylan Cease also has been walking a lot of batters, while Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen should be able to shut down the White Sox bats. He struggled against the red-hot Rangers in his last start, but John expects Rasmussen to bounce back.
Gombas is all over UFC Fight Night, going with underdog Karolina Kowalkiewicz (+105) over Felice Herrig in a women's strawweight bout on the preliminary card. Kowalkiewicz beat Herrig in a 2018 bout, and both are on losing streaks. Herrig has lost two in a row, while Kowalkiewicz is on a five-fight slide. "That's why Karolina's the underdog," Andrew says. "I don't agree with it. I don't think much has changed about this matchup."
Andrew also has a parlay at -150, with the first pick being Mike Trizano over Lucas Almeida in a featherweight fight on the UFC Fight Night main card. Trizano is at about -225 to win, and Gombas says that is a decent play on its own. But he also is backing Damon Jackson over Dan Argueta, who comes in as a replacement on short notice. "I think Jackson is literally better everywhere," Gombas says. "So even though he has a very juiced price tag, I think it's a safe one."Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
