Today's sports betting picks: Why Twins will upset Padres, plus more MLB best bets for Friday, July 29

The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Friday, July 29 on The Early Edge podcast

Host Allan Bell is joined by sports betting experts Larry Hartstein, Allie O'Neill and Alex "PropStarz" Selesnick on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball for Friday, July 29.

It's a Major League Baseball-centric Friday on the show, although sadly no matinee action. Bettors have to wait 6:40 for a first pitch. Larry likes late-night action from San Diego with the Twins at +100 to pull the minor upset: "Minnesota rookie Joe Ryan has a 2.05 ERA over his last four starts, allowing just 13 hits over 22 innings, and for the season opponents are hitting .207 against him. Minnesota has won 10 of his 15 starts. San Diego's Blake Snell is just 2-5 with a 4.75 ERA. He has pitched better lately, but he's always liable to walk several batters and you can't trust the Padres' bullpen. They've blown 16 saves, including two straight in Detroit on Tuesday and Wednesday."

Even though the Yankees have struggled of late offensively, including being held to one run on Thursday (an Aaron Judge walk-off homer), Allie likes New York at -1.5 on the first five inning line against the visiting Royals: "The Yankees are 15-1-5 on the first five runline behind ace Gerrit Cole. The Royals start struggling Kris Bubic, and the Yankees hit lefties a bit better."

PropStarz is on the Guardians' Shane Bieber Over 6.5 strikeouts at the Rays: "Bieber is having a down season by his standards and his strikeout numbers have subsequently dipped compared to previous seasons. However, he is still throwing 8.87 strikeouts per 9 IP and his 13.8 swinging strike percentage is only a few ticks below his career average of 14.2 percent. When you zoom in on Bieber's strikeout metrics, it is apparent he is running cold and is due for some positive regression. He gets a fantastic matchup on paper this evening against the Rays, who average the fifth most strikeouts in the majors."
