Today's sports betting picks: Why Philadelphia's Zack Wheeler will mow down the Pirates, plus more MLB and PGA Tour best bets for Thursday

The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Thursday, July 28, on The Early Edge podcast

Host Allan Bell is joined by sports betting experts John Bollman, Allie O'Neill and Alex "PropStarz" Selesnick on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball and the PGA Tour for Thursday, July 28.

After visting the "Prop Shop" with PropStarz, getting "The Bollpen Report" from John, and "Queen of Cashes" Allie offering up some MLB notes, Allan kicks things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day. It is an MLB pick, with the site backing the Giants -135 against the Cubs (9:45 p.m. ET). San Francisco has won six of its past seven games against Chicago, and the Cubs have won just three of their past 11 against left-handed starters.

PropStarz has an MLB prop play, going with Philadelphia's Zack Wheeler to go Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+115) against the Pirates (7:05 p.m. ET). The right-hander is averaging 6.3 per start, but this is "an incredible matchup on paper," the expert says. Selesnick says Pittsburgh averages the third-most strikeouts in the majors. Wheeler "really beats up on teams that strike out a lot, which we know the Pirates do," PropStarz says. His model pegs the Phillies starter for 7.5 strikeouts, so there's a great edge here.

Allie also has an MLB pick, going Over 9 Runs (-110) in the Rays vs. Orioles matchup in Baltimore (12:35 p.m. ET). Starters Ryan Yarbrough of the Rays and the Orioles' Jordan Lyles have both struggled in previous meetings between these teams.

Jonathan Coachman was expected to host the show but is swamped with PGA Tour duties at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Still, he checks in for Cash With the Coach, and both are first-round matchup plays on the PGA Tour event at Detroit Golf Club. The first is J.H. "Tom" Kim (-123) over Kevin Kisner, and Coach says "I like Tom Kim against anybody they're gonna put up against him right now." Coachman also is taking Doug Ghim (-110) over Brendan Steele.

Bollman wraps things up with the final MLB pick, going with the Rockies +175 over the Dodgers (8:40 p.m. ET). "The Rockies are THE best team in the league in weighted on-base average against lefties," John says. For that reason, he is betting against Tyler Anderson even though he has been great for the Dodgers this season. "I love this value here," Bollman says of this plus-money play.
