Today's sports betting picks: Why LSU will cover vs. Mississippi State, plus more college football plays for Friday, September 16

Host Jonathan Coachman is joined by sports betting experts Emory Hunt, Chip Patterson and Allan Bell on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for college football for Friday, Sept. 16.

It's a college football-heavy day! Emory starts us off with an SEC matchup on Saturday as Mississippi State is -2.5 at LSU, the SEC debut for new Tigers coach Brian Kelly. Emory thinks it will go well: "This is going to be an interesting game for a couple of reasons. Firstly, when you factor in how LSU finished their game vs Florida State, how they started the game vs Southern and the fact that they are getting their best RB in John Emery back for this game, this will be a totally different team than what we saw in the opener. Also, Mississippi State's offensive identity plays right into the strength of the LSU defense, which is their secondary. Look for the Tigers to get their revenge against the Bulldogs down in Death Valley."

Chip is leaning Under 44.5 points in Miami at Texas A&M: "Doesn't really matter whether Jimbo Fisher starts Haynes King or Max Johnson at quarterback. I do believe Johnson is probably better, but King turns the ball over -- Johnson will be more methodical and likely not turn the ball over. On the flip side, less of a chance of turnovers means less of a chance for a short field for the Canes. Miami will be without leading receiver Xavier Restrepo. He is the only reliable option UM has at wideout. He leads the No. 13 Hurricanes in targets (12), catches (11) and receiving yards (172) for a team that lost both of its leading receivers from last year."

There's ACC action tonight when Florida State visits Louisville, and Allan likes Over 56.5 points: "FSU's offense has figured something out under Mike Norvell. Meanwhile, Louisville has taken care of business the past two years against the Seminoles. Don't not sleep on Cards QB Malik Cunningham, who has torched FSU in those two victories."
