SportsLine NFL simulations: Jadeveon Clowney would add nearly full win to Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns reportedly have made a big contract offer to Jadeveon Clowney, and the SportsLine Projection Model sees Clowney making a big impact if he signs there.

Unquestionably, the top NFL free agent still on the market is former Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft was traded before last season from the Houston Texans to the Seattle Seahawks and had three sacks in 13 games. Not huge numbers, but Clowney was double-teamed often.

It seems unlikely that Clowney will stay on the market past the April 23-25 NFL Draft. It's still likely that he re-signs with Seattle, but the Cleveland Browns reportedly have jumped into the bidding in the wake of Clowney supposedly lowering his demands from around $20 million per season to a few million less.

The Browns already have signed another defensive end in Adrian Clayborn, but he's not close to Clowney, and the team still has plenty of salary cap space – a league-high $43 million, according to overthecap.com. Seattle, by comparison, has under $15 million. A Cleveland defensive front of Clowney on one side and another former No. 1 overall pick, Myles Garrett, on the other would wreak havoc.

Cleveland currently has a 2020 win total of 8.5 at William Hill sportsbook, with the Under a -125 favorite. The SportsLine Projection Model simulated the Browns' season with Clowney, and he would jump Cleveland – one of four active franchises to never play in a Super Bowl along with Houston, Jacksonville and Detroit – from 7.4 victories to 8.2. Still not much shot at winning a title, though, with Cleveland's championship percentage rising to 0.8 percent from 0.3.

On the flip side, the Seahawks losing Clowney would drop them from 8.5 wins to 7.9 and a Super Bowl percentage of 0.9, down from 2.1. Seattle is given a win total of 9.5 at William Hill with the Under a slight -115 favorite.

The Titans, Jets and Giants also have been rumored as potential Clowney suitors.
