Seattle Seahawks 2023 futures: Super Bowl odds, win total picks, best bets, schedule and more

The Seahawks' rebuilding project is ahead of schedule, but does that make Geno Smith & Co. contenders in 2023?

The Seattle Seahawks missed the memo about the 2022 season being a rebuilding year. No Russell Wilson? Two rookies starting at offensive tackle? Other rookies playing significant snaps all over the field? No problem. Quarterback Geno Smith was arguably the most surprising player in the NFL last season, offensive tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas held up well in their first years, and other rookies from the best draft class of '22 played like veterans in helping the Seahawks finish 9-8 and somehow earn a wild card berth in the NFC.

With last season's success, even the most skeptical Seattle fan could easily be lured into believing that a return to glory is around the corner. But don't be fooled: The Seahawks remain a rebuilding project -- though one that is definitely ahead of schedule.

After last year's reclamation season, Smith signed a three-year, $105 million contract, so he's the man in Seattle for the foreseeable future. While he played well for much of last season, he did have some pre-2022 Geno Smith moments. He will need to prove he can be more consistent over a 17-game schedule. Lucky for him, he has several foundational pieces working for him, including Cross and Lucas, running back Kenneth Walker III (1,050 yards and nine touchdowns rushing last season) and big-play receiver DK Metcalf (4,218 receiving yards and 35 receiving TDs in his career).

The team's bigger concern is on defense, which struggled against the run (third worst in the league) and on third down (fifth worst) last season. The front office addressed those needs by bringing back linebacker Bobby Wagner and defensive tackle Jarran Reed, signing defensive end Dre'Mont Jones and drafting cornerback Devon Witherspoon (fifth overall) and outside linebacker Derick Hall (37th).

The odds suggest that the Seahawks aren't legitimate contenders in 2023. But the odds didn't have them making the playoffs last season either.
