Santa Anita morning line odds: Racing insider gives selections for the Rainbow Pick 6 for Oct. 31

Sunday is closing day of the fall meet at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. The Rainbow Pick 6 is a mandatory payout, and the pool is estimated to approach $5 million. The Pick 6 begins with Race 5 at 5:33 p.m. ET and ends with the Twilight Derby (Race 10). Before you make any picks, you NEED to know how racing insider and accomplished horseplayer Bob Weir has handicapped the six-race sequence.

A Saratoga Springs-based racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker, Weir has studied the races and formulated a Pick 6 ticket in his analysis below. A two-time qualifier for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas, Weir has produced multiple five-figure days at the track over the years, including a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014. This year, he has been on fire. He hit the exacta in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Tampa Bay Derby and Peter Pan Stakes, the trifecta in the Risen Star Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes and Pennsylvania Derby and the superfecta in the Belmont Stakes, with the Tampa Bay score returning $1,414. Those are just some of his scores in 2021.

The Rainbow Pick 6 features a carryover of more than $796,000. And since Sunday is a mandatory-payout day, the pool is estimated to approach $5 million, providing the potential for a life-changing score. 

The featured race on the card is the Twilight Derby, a Grade 2 turf race for 3-year-olds. The distance covers 1 1/8 miles. The 5-2 morning-line favorite is Rock Your World, who famously won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in runaway fashion. But that race was on dirt, and Sunday's race is on grass.

Weir has handicapped the Pick 6 at Santa Anita for Sunday, made his picks and constructed his tickets.

We can tell you that Weir is high on Vantastic, the 7-2 second choice in Race 9, the fifth leg of the Pick 6. "Vantastic is the only horse in this race who has won going down the hill at Santa Anita," Weir tells SportsLine. Vantastic is Weir's top pick in Race 9 and a single A horse on his Pick 6 tickets.

Based in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Weir has been handicapping and following horse racing since reading Andy Beyer's landmark handicapping book "Picking Winners" in the late 1980s. Weir is highly invested in the Beyer Speed Figure, a number assigned to every race run by a horse that measures how fast the horse ran. He uses the figure as the backbone of his handicapping. In fact, thanks to his proficiency with speed figures and top-tier handicapping, he landed one of just eight spots on Beyer's figure-making team in 2017, a position he holds to this day.

Weir's methodology has produced multiple five-figure days. In 2014, he hit a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar. The following year, he nailed a $31,000 Pick 6 at Gulfstream Park. In 2016 and 2017, Weir qualified for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas!
