Ravens vs. Lions NFL Week 3 injury report, odds, spread: Lamar Jackson misses practice with illness, trends to know

The Detroit Lions are big underdogs when they host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.

While Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff said he was thankful for a fresh start with the Lions following his offseason trade from the Los Angeles Rams, it's clear that Goff isn't the same guy playing sans Rams coach Sean McVay as the former No. 1 overall pick is now 0-9 in his starting career without McVay as his head coach. That's likely to become 0-10 Sunday with the Lions as 8-point home underdogs vs. the Ravens … and expect Baltimore to score at least 30 points.

Unlike most QBs taken No. 1 overall, Goff didn't start immediately in his rookie season (2016) but instead got his first start in Week 11 against Miami under then-coach Jeff Fisher. The Rams lost that 14-10 and would end up losing all seven of Goff's starts, the final three under interim coach Jim Fassell. Then to open this season in Detroit under Dan Campbell, the Lions are 0-2. (Goff was 42-20 under McVay in regular-season games.)

Goff's against the spread record in those nine McVay-less games is 1-8, with the ATS win a miracle backdoor cover in the season opener against San Francisco. Detroit is now 0-10 straight up with quarterbacks other than Matthew Stafford starting since 2019.

The Lions are the first team since the 2008 Rams to be at least 8-point underdogs in Weeks 1-3 of a season. Defensively, the Motor City Kitties have allowed at least 30 points in eight straight games. That's an unwanted NFL record. Caesars Sportsbook is currently listing the Ravens with an Over/Under of 29.5 points, with the over a -115 favorite.

Baltimore avoided a 0-2 start with a stunning rally past the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night in Week 2. That improved Lamar Jackson to 31-8 in his regular-season career. With a win Sunday, he would tie Patrick Mahomes, Dan Marino and Kurt Warner with the most (32) through a quarterback's first 40 starts. But his availability could be in question after he missed practice on Thursday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Update: Jackson was dealing with a "little stomach bug" and by all accounts it's nothing COVID-related and he should be fine.

Jackson had his 11th career 100-yard rushing game in Week 2 and his next one would break a tie for the most all-time with Michael Vick. The 2019 NFL MVP is 14-6-1 ATS (70%) in his career on road. That's the second-best road cover percentage of any QB with at least 15 starts behind Denver's Teddy Bridgewater.

Lions cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu made his first career start in Monday's loss at Green Bay but injured his quad and has landed on IR. Detroit was without top WR Tyrell Williams on Monday, and he's out again. Kicker Austin Seibert was placed on the COVID list today.
