Pete's Best Bets: All underdogs with confidence

Will Peyton Manning and the Broncos remain unbeaten after their Week 8 tilt with Green Bay? Pete Prisco shares his Best Bets for Sunday.

There is nothing worse than staring a 4-1 week in the face, only to see a 55-yard field goal banged through to ruin the cover for the New England Patriots last week.

I called it.

Once the Patriots scored to go up 10, covering the 9.5-point spread, I knew the Jets would get in position to try and kick a field goal, make it a touchdown game, and then try an onside kick.

So what happened? They had an illegal procedure penalty on a 50-yard attempt, but moving it back five yards didn’t matter.

Nick Folk could have made that kick from Martha's Vineyard, the way he kicked it.

Oh, well. It meant a 3-2 week, which isn't bad. That makes the season record 20-14-1 as part of Team Oddshark in the SuperContest at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.

It's time for an unblemished week. Just once, let me get the breaks.

To make it a reality, I am going back to the dogs -- five of them.

I can hear the barking already.

Lions (+5) vs. Chiefs (SportsLine's pick) -- This game is in London, which makes it a tough game to pick.

But the Lions played there last season, so they have an idea about the travel and the lay of the land. The Lions changed offensive coordinators this week, and I expect a lot of Matt Stafford throwing it around against a bad Chiefs secondary.

This will be high scoring, but the Lions will hang around.

Bears (+1.5) vs. Vikings (SportsLine's pick) -- The Bears are coming off a bye, while the Vikings are coming off a road game.

That's a tough combination to beat.

The Vikings are 3-8 in their last 11 against the Bears, which doesn't help their cause. I think the Chicago offense will move the football, while the improved defense will slow the Minnesota offense.

Bears win it outright.

49ers (+8.5) at Rams (SportsLine's pick) -- The 49ers are coming off a terrible loss, while the Rams looked good beating up the Browns.

But 8.5 points?

The Rams shouldn't be giving that number to anybody. With all the turmoil in San Francisco regarding Colin Kaepernick, I think they regroup to play well here. They keep it close.

The 49ers are 6-2 in their last eight games as underdogs to the Rams.

Raiders (+2.5) vs. Jets (SportsLine's pick) -- The Jets are 3-9 in their last 12 on the road against the Raiders. And they are playing a second straight road game after playing a tough division roadie last week at New England.

I think the young Raiders will be ready here.

The Oakland offensive line is underrated and will do a good job here against the Jets front. Derek Carr will make enough plays to win it.

You won't need the points.

Broncos (+3) vs. Packers (SportsLine's pick) -- This is about pass rushers and quarterbacks.

The Packers have the better quarterback, but the Broncos have the best pass rush. That will be the difference here.

I think that pass rush will get after Aaron Rodgers. Both teams are coming off the bye, so they will be rested, and it just comes down to me thinking the Broncos pass rush will be the difference.
