Ole Miss vs. Alabama college football odds: 2021 Heisman Trophy winner between Matt Corral, Bryce Young could be determined Saturday
The two-man Heisman Trophy race could have a clear leader after Saturday's Ole Miss at Alabama game.
While Week 4 around college football left a little to be desired in terms of marquee matchups, there are plenty of them this Saturday, highlighted by No. 12 Ole Miss visiting No. 1 Alabama at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Rebels quarterback Matt Corral and Tide counterpart Bryce Young are each +180 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook to win the 2021 Heisman Trophy and there's no one else within shouting distance. Thus, Saturday's winning QB could take the lead for good.
Ole Miss (3-0) has one advantage in that it comes off a bye week. Corral, a redshirt junior from California, has completed 68.8 percent of his passes thus far for 997 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also has rushed 33 times for 158 yards and five more scores. In the Rebels' most recent game, a 61-21 rout of Tulane, Corral became the second FBS player ever to throw three touchdowns and rush for four in the same game.
Overall, Corral has accounted for 14 touchdowns, the second most for an SEC player in the first three games over the last 25 seasons. Kentucky's Tim Couch had 15 in 1997; he would eventually be the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 draft.
Corral, once a +5000 Heisman long shot, has played so well that he's in the potential conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He's +1000 on that prop, still behind the likes of Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler (+225), who was the preseason Heisman favorite but is now +2500, North Carolina's Sam Howell (+300), Oregon's Kayvon Thibodeaux (+450) and Liberty's Malik Willis (+750).
Corral's stock will only rise if he pulls the upset in Tuscaloosa. Last year, the Rebels lost at home to the Tide 63-48 in a game that saw almost 1,400 yards of offense. Corral was terrific in throwing for 365 yards and two scores. No Ole Miss player has won the Heisman.
Of course, Young was a backup to Mac Jones last year for the Tide (4-0). The sophomore is completing 72.1 percent of his passes for 1,124 yards, 15 touchdowns and one interception this year. Young is not a runner like Corral, though. In Saturday's blowout of Southern Miss, Young set a school single-game completion record of 90.9 by hitting on 20 of 22 passes for 313 yards and five scores. One of those incompletions was that lone interception this season and it wasn't his fault.
Alabama opened as an 18.5-point favorite over Ole Miss but that very quickly dropped to its current number of -14.5.
