NFL Week 6 teasers: Proven NFL expert ranks top teaser options, plus why to avoid teasing the 49ers
R.J. White, who finished up more than 35 units on NFL ATS picks from 2017-22, shares his top teaser plays for Week 6
We're coming off a nice teaser week where moving the Texans up through the +3 and +7 worked out when they lost a close game by two points. People on both sides of the normal spread could've won or lost depending on when they locked in their picks, but we were inside the teaser number for the entire game. We also had an easy cover with the Jets, who didn't need the teased number at all in their outright win over the Broncos. Our two other main teaser options (Colts, Raiders) also won outright as short underdogs. The only blemish on our record is anyone who teased the Patriots before they got out of range, with that line moving across the zero and making New England favored by Sunday.
If you've read my other content or followed my picks, you likely already know I've been SportsLine's No. 1 NFL against-the-spread expert over the last six years, going 535-450-30 against the spread to put me up more than 35 units on those picks at SportsLine since 2017. When it comes to teasers, we stress focusing on the options that go through Teaser Alley and ideally lining up with sides you already like against the main number.
If you don't know what Teaser Alley is, read on to find out. Even if you do, I'll go through every game where I believe there's a teaseable number, give you my analysis of whether it's worth putting in our bucket of potential plays, and then ranking those plays at the end, with the top two representing the best teaser play you can make this week. But if you disagree with any of the analysis for those two teaser legs, you have all the info you need to find other teaser-worthy options.
One game we won't be teasing is 49ers-Browns. If Deshaun Watson can't play, that would likely push the line to at least 49ers -7 and potentially higher, with the latter making it a teaser candidate. But the game could also be affected by extremely windy conditions, which has helped drop the total to 37 at many books. Lower-scoring games open up the possibility for a home 'dog to steal a win, and a windy game could presumably help the Browns compete with their run game and excellent defense.
Now let's get to the teaser legs I do think are worth considering.
