NFL 2023 Week 15 lookahead lines, picks: Three games to bet a week early from proven NFL expert

Our NFL lookahead picks for Week 14 went from bad to atrocious as the midnight hour approached Monday.

We snared Jacksonville -3 against Cleveland, having counted on the Jaguars to dispose of Cincinnati in the close-out game of the 13th week. In the fourth quarter, Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence went down from an ankle injury with an undetermined recovery time before Cincy won in overtime. The spread remains -3 — with the Browns now favored. Translated: We would have benefited from a six-point swing by waiting until this week to bet the Jags — not that we'd want to if Lawrence is ruled out.

Our other two selections also went in the wrong direction.

We opted for Pittsburgh at -6.5 against New England, figuring the Steelers' offense would continue improving with a new coordinator and the Patriots sinking into oblivion. Even though the Pats were shut out Sunday, the public has moved the line to -5. With the Steelers' offense regressing to sad old times, bettors have concluded Pittsburgh should not be yielding nearly a touchdown to anyone.

Similarly, our selection of New Orleans at -6.5 looks unwise given the shift to -5, with another QB injury at play. Veteran Derek Carr appears unlikely to exit concussion protocol in time for Sunday's meeting with Carolina. As woeful as the Panthers are, the public considers 6.5 too much for an offensively challenged team to grant.
