When we submitted three lookahead picks last week with games involving the Vikings, Raiders and Giants, their starting quarterbacks were Jaren Hall, Jimmy Garoppolo and Daniel Jones.

No longer. For Minnesota, it's now Joshua Dobbs. For Las Vegas, it's Aidan O'Connell. For New York, it's anybody's guess. OK, it's likely Tommy DeVito or Matt Barkley. But, as the Vikings demonstrated a week ago when they acquired Dobbs, anyone could appear at the Giants' doorstep.)

Point being, the logic that influenced our lookaheads applies no more. When we backed the Saints and the Jets on Sunday, we assumed New Orleans would be facing the untested rookie Hall and New York a struggling Garoppolo. We snared the Giants in the belief that Jones would have a game under his belt after returning from an injury.

Never mind. 

Our Giants selection, in hindsight, was horrendous. By waiting, we could have received a whopping 16 points after another Jones injury has sent the Giants into desperation mode.

Attracted by those fetching lines of -2.5, we missed on the Jets, who have slipped to -1.5 even as the Raiders have cast their fate with the rookie O'Connell. The slight favorites were horrid on offense in front of a Monday night TV audience.

Fortunately, Dobbs' too-good-to-be-true debut with the Vikings was offset by the steady weekly rise by the Saints, whose favoritism by 2.5 points is unmoved. This number still could creep up to 3.
