Kings vs. Bulls Wednesday NBA injury report, odds: DeMar DeRozan set at 32.5 points as he eyes NBA record with at least 35 points, 50 percent shooting
Red-hot DeMar DeRozan could make history for the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
Michael Jordan is the greatest player in NBA history, but he never had a streak of six straight games with at least 35 points and 50 percent shooting from the field. Only two players have: Current Bulls star DeMar DeRozan and the most dominant player in NBA history, Wilt Chamberlain (twice). DeRozan can be the first with seven such games Wednesday as Chicago hosts Sacramento with the Bulls -5.5 at Caesars Sportsbook and DeRozan at Over/Under 32.5 points.
To think, many NBA "experts" panned the Bulls for landing DeRozan in a sign-and-trade with the Spurs this past offseason. He's playing the best basketball of his borderline Hall of Fame career at age 32 and is up to fourth in the NBA in scoring at 27.9 ppg. DeRozan, who will start on Sunday's All-Star Game, isn't getting much love from Caesars oddsmakers with +4000 odds to win MVP.
DeRozan had 40 points on 16-for-24 from the field in Monday's 120-109 comeback win vs. his former Spurs team as the Bulls played without fellow All-Star Zach LaVine. He won't played in this one, either. DeRozan has shot at least 59.3 percent from the field – he rarely attempts three-pointers – in five of the six games in this run. He was at exactly 50 percent (12-for-24) on Saturday vs. Oklahoma City.
DeRozan's streak of six straight 35-point games is a personal record and the third-longest such streak in Chicago's history, behind Jordan's run of seven and 10. Overall, the Bulls have shot .500 or better an NBA-best 22 times, winning 20 of those games. They face a Kings team that is the second-worst in the NBA in defensive field-goal percentage (.475). It's the first meeting of the season between the clubs. The SportsLine Projection Model forecasts DeRozan for 31.8 points.Â
The lone Kings injury to note is recent trade acquisition Jeremy Lamb, who missed Monday's loss at Brooklyn with a left ankle injury.
