Joe Burrow 2023 NFL season props, odds: Bengals quarterback returns to practice Wednesday, on track for Week 1 vs. Browns

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has returned to practice.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow hadn't practiced since suffering a calf strain on the second day of training camp and there was some concern about his Week 1 availability, but the former No. 1 overall pick returned to practice Wednesday and thus is on track for the Sept. 10 opener in Cleveland, a team that has given Burrow some fits in his young career. Cincinnati is back up to -2.5 per the SportsLine consensus after dropping as low as -1.

Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor may have telegraphed Burrow's return Tuesday when the team cut experienced QB Trevor Siemian and opted to keep Jake Browning, who has never taken a regular-season NFL snap, as the No. 2 signal-caller. Today, the team signed former Cowboys QB Will Grier — who threw for 305 yards and ran for 45 more in his final game with Dallas — to its practice squad.

In Taylor's head coaching career with the Bengals, they are 24-17-1 with Burrow as their starting QB, averaging 25.6 points and 362.4 yards per game. With all other QBs (Andy Dalton, Brandon Allen and Ryan Finley), the team is 4-19 under Taylor, averaging 17.1 points and 303 yards per game. Taylor preceded Burrow by a year.

Here are Joe Burrow props active at DraftKings:

  • To win NFL MVP: +750 (second favorite)
  • To win NFL Offensive Player of the Year: +2500
  • To lead NFL in passing yards: +900
  • To lead NFL in passing TDs: +450
  • To lead NFL in interceptions: +1600
  • Over/Under 4425.5 yards: Under -120 favorite
  • Over/Under 33.5 TD passes: Under -120 favorite
  • To have at least 300 yards in eight games: +125
  • To have at least 450 yards in a game: +150
  • To have at least six TD passes in a game: +150
  • To have 40 TD passes: +200

Note that Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase, Burrow's current teammate and also former teammate at LSU, is the +1100 favorite for Offensive Player of the Year. Burrow had five 300-yard games last year. His career high is 525 yards, set in December 2021 vs. Baltimore. He also had a 481-yard game last year vs. Atlanta. His career high for TD passes is four.

One thing the Bengals must do this year is protect Burrow better. He has taken 153 sacks, including the playoffs, in his first three seasons. That's seven more than any other QB in his first three years since the merger. Burrow hasn't played all 17 games yet. Cincinnati had one game canceled last year and he sat out a meaningless Week 18 matchup in the 2021 season. Burrow was limited to 10 games as a rookie after tearing up his knee.

Burrow is 1-4 against the Browns, his most losses against any team, and has dropped two straight in Cleveland. Dalton is the only QB with more career losses vs. the Browns (5) since 1999.
