Jason La Canfora's 2023 NFL Week 1 picks: Eagles vs. Patriots among insider's best bets

I tend to take things easy to open an NFL season. Better safe than sorry.

A lot can change in this league from year to year; and plenty stays the same. Some teams carry the same warts around for far longer than one might expect. I rely on my power rankings quite a bit in the early stages of a season and tend to focus on teams that I believe will be better than Vegas currently projects their win total to be. Should one of those teams be facing an opponent I strongly believe is even worse than Vegas is currently projecting, then I can get a little laser focused.
