Fantasy football: 5 changes ahead of Week 6 you need to know about

Jen Ryan identifies five changes ahead of Week 6 that every Fantasy player needs to know about.

If you need evidence of how much changes from week to week in the NFL, just look at the power rankings from week to week (ignoring the Patriots, of course). One week a team is a Super Bowl contender and the next they are nothing more than a pretender. This sport and league, more than any, is designed with parity in mind from top to bottom.

Anything can happen on Sunday and the variance from week to week is unpredictable. Of the many changes from Week 5, here are give that you need to know about.

We are down to just two undefeated teams

It should surprise no one that the two teams yet to have been beaten are the New England Patriots and a team that is quarterbacked by someone from the Bill Belichick school of winning. After an absolute thrashing of the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers join the Patriots as one of the two unbeaten teams in football.

We know the Patriots are for real, but the 49ers are legitimately looking for real. Jimmy Garoppolo got off to a less-than-stellar start this season, throwing four interceptions in three games. Adjustments were made during the bye week, the running game came alive, and Garoppolo minimized the mistakes this week. He will need to play at his best with matchups on the horizon against the Rams, Panthers, Seahawks, Packers, and Ravens.

The Patriots, well they are looking like a team destined to go undefeated, as per usual. Prior to this week, the Kansas City Chiefs were the only other unbeaten team. Speaking of…

The Kansas City Chiefs are indeed mortal

Dare I say the Andy Reid was outcoached last week? It sure seemed like it. Additionally, it was a team led by another quarterback from the Belichick tree that knocked off the then unbeaten Chiefs. Does it ever get old, Belichick being so damn good?

The Colts did not even look like a formidable opponent last week, the Chiefs just looked awful and let Marlon Mack run all over them, to the tune of 132 yards on a career-high 29 carries. Not a single receiver went over 50 yards.

Patrick Mahomes still registered his typical 300-yard game and had a 100-yard receiver in Bryon Pringle, but outside of that this lethal offense was on life support.

The Chiefs will be fine and will look bounce back this week when the host the Texans. Still, they have let us all know that they are fallible.

"QB Wins" is not a stat, but Kyle Allen is making a strong case for it to be one

Here is a glaring stat, courtesy of my friend Scott Barrett from Pro Football Focus:

Over their last 13 games, the Panthers are:

    • 0-8 with Cam Newton
    • 0-1 with Taylor Heinicke
    • 4-0 with Kyle Allen

Look, we cannot attribute all the Panthers' success to Allen, but the numbers above make it hard to argue that it is just a coincidence that they have been on quite the hot streak.

This of course presents an issue a little bit down the road. If the Panthers stay on this path, is this the last we've seen of Cam Newton under center? He wouldn't be the first quarterback to lose his job due to a combination of injury and a hot hand. QB wins, for the win.

Minshew Magic is not dying down

I mentioned last week that Gardner Minshew is no fluke, but the captivating sixth-round pick is taking the league by storm.

The Jaguars lost a close one to the Panthers last week, but Minshew still did his thing. He completed 26 of his 44 attempts for 374 yards and two scores, with no turnovers. This was his first 300-yard game of the season, and he sniffed 400 yards. Since throwing an interception in Week 1, Minshew has now thrown seven touchdowns to that one pick.

In his worst week, he had a 97.16 passer rating. He is nearing stud-status and brought D.J. Chark, the WR5 in PPR scoring, along for the ride with him.

Could Nick Foles and Cam Newton both lose their jobs to injury this year? We will know the answer to that sooner than later.

The Browns' preseason hype train has derailed

People have been having a field day trashing Baker Mayfield for the past 24 hours. Richard Sherman even took (what has now turned out to be a bit fabricated) shots at him. Mayfield's play has been an issue in games this season, but the Browns in general not performing up to the expectations many had for them coming into this season.

On paper, this simply makes no sense. Nick Chubb is an elite running back, who can catch the ball. The tandem of Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham should be one of the top duo's in football. Myles Garrett is a defensive wrecking ball.

What exactly is going on here with the Browns?

We could put the blame solely on Mayfield, but Freddie Kitchens should not escape unscathed. Did the Browns make the wrong choice in not going with Gregg Williams, who helmed the team last season when the hype was building?

At the end of the day, maybe the Browns are a little bit of those same, old Browns.
