Fantasy Football 2023: A winning strategy for drafting quarterbacks in standard and two-QB leagues

SportsLine's top-ranked expert Jacob Gibbs outlines how to approach the quarterback position in your 2023 Fantasy Football drafts.

Conventional wisdom tells us to wait to address the quarterback position in leagues that require just one QB starter. As this thought became more mainstream, the average draft position for quarterbacks dropped. Things look a little different in 2023, though, after we witnessed historic seasons from Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts in 2022. Mahomes' 2022 point total was the highest of all time, and both Allen and Hurts actually averaged more points on a per-game basis. And now, after no quarterbacks had an average draft position inside of the top 30 in 2022, Mahomes (ADP of 20.9 overall), Hurts (23.7), and Allen (27.2) all are top-30 picks, and Lamar Jackson (33.4) is not far behind.

Are the days of waiting at the QB position over as people feel more and more compelled to chase the legendary upside that these top passers bring?
