Cardinals vs. White Sox Wednesday MLB injury report, probable pitchers, odds: Yadier Molina, Tim Anderson out; St. Louis tries to avoid sweep against Carlos Rodon

The Chicago White Sox look for the home sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.

The Cardinals have not been swept by an American League opponent in a three-game regular season series since April 15-17, 2017, when they dropped three in a row at the New York Yankees.

Anderson missed some time earlier this season due to injury and is batting .287 with five homers, 17 RBIs and seven steals in 37 games. He is 1-for-9 in this series with two RBIs and a run scored – the White Sox have won both by at least four runs. Slumping White Sox No. 1 catcher Yasmani Grandal is out of the lineup for a second straight game. He's walking a ton this year but batting an ugly .136.

St. Louis starts right-hander John Gant (3-3, 2.04), who has been a huge surprise. Gant is one of 19 starters in the majors this year to hold the opposition to three runs or less and six hits or less in eight or more starts. Only one player has homered off Gant this season: The Phillies' Bryce Harper on April 18. Gant has thrown one scoreless inning of relief in his career vs. the White Sox.

The Cards give Molina at least one day off per week at age 38. He's having another fine season, betting .288 with seven homers and 21 RBIs and continues to be almost impossible to steal upon. Andrew Knizner will start behind the plate and bat sixth.

No question the Cardinals have their work cut out against Rodon (5-1, 1.27), who is now a +1200 fourth favorite to win the AL Cy Young at William Hill. Of course, he had a no-hitter (and near perfect game) earlier this year and pitched six shutout innings at Yankee Stadium in his last outing, striking out 13. He has allowed one earned run or less six times, tied for the second-most among American League starters but hasn't seen the Cardinals since 2018.
