Braves vs. Rockies Tuesday MLB props, odds: Ronald Acuna Jr. +320 to homer, become first player ever with 30 home runs, 60 steals in season
Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. could make MLB history on Tuesday night in Denver.
On Monday, red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts overtook Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. as the NL MVP favorite at DraftKings. However, Acuña Jr. had four hits and five RBI on Monday night in a win at the Rockies to retake thelead at -135. Should Acuna homer again Tuesday at Coors Field, and he's +320 to do so, he would make MLB history.
While four players overall have had a 40-homer/40-steal season, Acuña is a dinger shy of MLB's first-ever 30-homer/60-steal season. He tied career highs with four hits and five RBI on Monday, hitting his 29th home run and stealing two bases to increase his major league-leading total to 61. He is thus one homer shy of becoming the first 30/60 player. Two fans ran on the field and approached Acuña, and one made contact and knocked him down before security stepped in.
"I was a little scared at first," Acuña said through an interpreter. "I think the fans were out there and asking for pictures. I really couldn't say anything because at that point, security was already there and we were already kind of tangled up, but security was able to get there and everything's OK. We're all OK and I hope they're OK."
Acuña became the first MLB player in history to have at least four hits, four runs, five RBI and two steals in a single game since RBI became an official stat in 1920. For another steal tonight, he's +190. Overall, Acuña is batting .335 and it's no longer out of the question he wins the NL batting title, as he's 15 points behind MLB leader Luis Arraez of Miami with Arraez coming back to the pack.
The 25-year-old Acuña joins Rickey Henderson (three times), Joe Morgan (twice) and Eric Davis as the only players to steal 60-plus bases and hit 20-plus homers in the same season. The previous record for most homers by a player in a 60-steals season was 28 by Henderson in 1986 with 87 steals and in 1990 with 65 steals. Acuña is the first Braves player with at least 60 steals in a season since 1991 (Otis Nixon) and first player in the majors with 60 since Dee Strange-Gordon had 60 for the Marlins in 2017.
The only players to record 40 homers and 40 steals in a season are Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Alfonso Soriano (2006). Acuna was three steals shy of that club in 2019, when he was just 21 years old. The most steals in a 40/40 season is 46 by Rodriguez.
Acuña is 6-for-18 with the one homer and three steals this year against Colorado pitching with Peter Lambert (3-4, 4.92 ERA) starting tonight. Acuña has never faced him and is set at over/under 2.5 total bases, with the Under a -150 favorite.
