The first Monday night game of the 2023 NFL season should draw one of the highest TV ratings of any matchup this year as well as massive betting action, as Aaron Rodgers makes his New York Jets debut at home at MetLife Stadium against the three-time AFC East champion Buffalo Bills at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC (there will be a ManningCast on ESPN2). The Jets will pay tribute to the fallen heroes and first responders on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. 

As if the Jets and the four-time MVP Rodgers needed any more hype, they got plenty of it as the featured team on HBO's "Hard Knocks." He has won nine straight Monday night games, tied for the third-longest such streak for a quarterback in league history. 

The New York defense was Super Bowl-caliber last year, led by Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner, but the offense was far from that with Zach Wilson (now the No. 2), Mike White, Joe Flacco and Chris Streveler under center. Despite that shaky QB rotation, receiver Garrett Wilson won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. 

Buffalo remains in its Super Bowl window with Josh Allen still in his prime and having earned four straight playoff births, but one could argue the Bills are going backward. They reached the AFC title game following the 2020 season but haven't been beyond the Divisional Round since, and were dominated at home in that round by Cincinnati this past January. Buffalo still hasn't been to the Super Bowl since losing four straight in the early 1990s.
