Best MLB bets today
Philadelphia Phillies at New York Yankees (-160, 10): 7:05 p.m. ET
Two perennial title contenders square off at Yankee Stadium when the Yankees host the Phillies Friday night. The Phillies just took two of three from the Red Sox are 5-5 over their last 10 games and sit just behind the Mets in the NL East standings, and they also hold a Wild Card Spot. The Yankees just dropped two of three in a key AL East series against the Blue Jays, who have taken a notable lead over New York in the standings.Â
Veteran right-hander Taijuan Walker (3-5, 3,75 ERA) starts for Philadelphia while New York counters with Will Warren (6-5, 4.91 ERA). This will be Walker's 11th start of the year and he hasn't been working deep into games, going just four innings in each of his last two outings. As for Warren, the rookie gave up five earned runs in 3.2 innings against the Braves in his most recent start.Â
Los Angeles Dodgers at Boston Red Sox (+101, 9.5): 7:10 p.m. ET
The defending champs haven't played their best ball of late, dropping six of their last 10, but they're still comfortably atop the NL West after taking two of three from the Twins this week. The Red Sox entered the All-Star Break on a massive winning streak but haven't played as well since, losing four of six coming out of the break. The Dodgers have been one of MLB's best teams all year long, while the Red Sox started cold and, despite trading star slugger Rafael Devers to San Francisco, they find themselves firmly in the AL Wild Card conversation with just under a week to go before the trade deadline.Â
Emmet Sheehan (1-1, 4.41 ERA) gets the nod for Los Angeles while the Red Sox will send out Brayan Bello (6-4, 3.23 ERA). Bello is coming off a quality start against the Cubs despite taking the loss and has not allowed more than three earned runs since May. Sheehan is making just his fifth appearance of 2025 for a banged-up Dodgers rotation, and he lasted just three innings while allowing five runs in his last start versus Minnesota.
