Best MLB bets today

Atlanta Braves (-130, 8.5) at New York Mets: 7:10 p.m. ET

Two teams heading in opposite directions meet on Monday when the Mets face the Braves. New York is just 2-8 in its last 10 games, while Atlanta has won seven of 10. The Braves have owned this series recently, going 7-1 in the last eight meetings. 

Spencer Schwellenbach gets the call for Atlanta. Schwellenbach faced the Mets last week, allowing six hits and four runs in 7.0 innings. The 25-year-old has given up at least four runs in four of his last six starts. 

The Mets counter with Paul Blackburn. The veteran will need to pitch better than he did against the Braves last week, where he allowed four runs over 3.2 innings in a 5-0 New York loss. Blackburn will be making his first home start of the season on Monday.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals (-110, 9): 7:45 p.m. ET

The red-hot Cardinals host NL Central rival Chicago on Monday. St. Louis had won eight straight before falling to Cincinnati on Sunday. 

Matthew Liberatore is on the hill for St. Louis. Liberatore is coming off a strong outing against the White Sox his last time out when he allowed only two runs in a 12-2 Cardinals victory. However, in his three prior starts, Liberatore gave up 17 runs in 14 innings of work. 

The Cubs turn to Ben Brown. Brown has been hit or miss in his last six starts. He allowed a total of four runs in three of the starts but 20 runs over 14.2 innings in the other three. Chicago has dropped Brown's last two road starts by a combined score of 10-3.
