Gegard Mousasi defends his middleweight title Friday night in the main event of Bellator 264 when takes on challenger John Salter. The main card is set for 9 p.m. ET from the Mohegan Sun Arena and will be televised on Showtime.

Mousasi (47-7-2) is considered one of the active icons in mixed martial arts. He is a former DREAM promotion champion who also had a decorated tenure in the UFC. Although he never won a UFC title, his run included wins over former champion Chris Weidman and former light heavyweight title challenger Thiago Santos.

The 36-year-old, Iran-born fighter is now a two-time Bellator champion after he defeated Douglas Lima for the vacant belt in November of last year.

Salter (18-4) has been an MMA professional for 12 years and had a brief stint in the UFC. He washed out with the sport's top promotion after losing two of his three fights but has since resurrected his career. The 36-year-old Alabama native has gone 8-1 in nine Bellator fights since joining the promotion in 2015 and will be making his first appearance in a title bout.
