Astros vs. Yankees odds, lines: Advanced computer model reveals picks for Wednesday's AL Championship Series opener

SportsLine's Projection Model has generated picks for the first ALCS game between Houston and New York

By@SportsLineUpdated: Oct 19, 2022 1:53PM UTC . 3 min read

The Houston Astros attempt to continue their postseason dominance against the New York Yankees when they host Game 1 of the 2022 American League Championship Series on Wednesday. Houston, which is making its sixth consecutive appearance in the ALCS, eliminated New York from the playoffs three times in the previous seven campaigns, most recently in the 2019 ALCS. The Astros went 5-2 against the Yankees during the regular season, with their only losses coming on walk-off hits - including one in extra innings.

First pitch at Minute Maid Park is set for 7:37 p.m. ET. Houston is listed as a -195 favorite (risk $195 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Astros vs. Yankees odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over/under for total runs scored is 7. (see the latest lines for every game on our MLB odds page).

Before making any Yankees vs. Astros picks, you NEED to see the latest MLB predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, and it entered the league championship round on a 20-13 roll on top-rated MLB money-line picks, returning more than $400. This is the same model that pegged the 2021 Atlanta Braves at 10-1 as one of three best bets to win it all last season. Anybody who has followed it has seen HUGE returns.

The model knows Houston is riding a five-game winning streak as it won its final two regular-season contests before sweeping Seattle in the AL Division Series. Yordan Alvarez drove in seven runs in the three games against the Mariners, including three on a walk-off homer in the series opener and two on a go-ahead blast in Game 2. Two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander, who went 18-4 with a major league-best 1.84 ERA during the regular season, struggled against Seattle in his first playoff start but allowed just one run over seven strong innings in a victory over New York in June.

The model also knows New York has had no time to rest after defeating Cleveland 5-1 in the decisive Game 5 of their AL Division Series on Tuesday. Aaron Judge, who set the AL single-season record with 62 home runs this year, went deep twice against the Guardians but also struck out 11 times in 20 at-bats. Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are a combined 6-for-41 lifetime against Verlander, with each recording two homers and three RBI.

Now, it has set its sights on Astros vs. Yankees. We can tell you the model is leaning Over on the total, and it also says one side of the money line has ALL the value! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any MLB picks of your own.
